THINK
“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret to your success is found in your daily routine.”
– John C. Maxwell
Do you want to change your life?
And I mean, REALLY change it?
I’m not talking about the kind of change that comes from reading a self-help book and feeling good for a day.
No, I’m talking about something real, something permanent.
You see, transformation isn’t sexy (like budgets and spreadsheets). It isn’t found in some grand gesture or life-altering epiphany.
True change is boring.
It’s all in the little things. The small, daily habits that stack up over time until you look back and don’t even recognise the person you used to be.
When most people think about improving their lives, they make it complicated. They think it’s about finding the perfect time or waiting for some magical motivation to strike.
But I’m going to let you into a little secret…
It’s the easy stuff, the stuff you can do every single day, that makes the biggest difference. Not once in a while. Every. Damn. Day.
In this week’s Newsletter, I’m going to share 37 habits.
Thirty-seven small, ridiculously simple things you can start doing today that will change your life forever.
No gurus, no motivational fluff, no-nonsense.
“Oh, you’re taking a different approach this week then, Huw?” 🤣
Just cold, hard action. From how you organise your mornings to the way you think about your money, these habits are the foundation of a better life.
Some of them may seem trivial at first, almost laughably easy, but that’s the point.
The trick isn’t complexity. It’s consistency.
If you’re looking for a quick fix, you won’t find it here. But if you’re tired of the same old story. You’re ready to roll up your sleeves and actually do the work. Well then, these 37 habits are exactly what you’ve been looking for. Because life doesn’t change all at once. It changes one habit, one day, one small decision at a time.
Are you ready to change your life forever?
Let’s get to work.
1. Make Your Bed
A military secret. It doesn’t matter if you live in a mansion or a shoebox; making your bed sets the tone for the day. You start by accomplishing something small. It’s a win before you even leave the house.
2. Drink a Glass of Water First Thing
Before your morning coffee or tea, drink a glass of water. It’s simple, it’s refreshing, and it wakes your body up properly. You’ve been asleep for hours, and your system’s crying out for hydration. Do this daily, and you’ll notice you start the day with more clarity and energy. It’s a tiny habit that keeps you ticking over the long term.
3. Eat One Less Spoonful
Not a diet. Not a fad. Just leave one spoonful on your plate each meal. Over a year? That’s hundreds of spoonfuls. Your body will thank you. Simplicity leads to change, one bite at a time.
4. Unsubscribe to One Pointless Service a Week
You don’t need half of the streaming services, newsletters, and subscriptions. Each week, cancel one you don’t use. You’ll save money, time, and mental energy for things that actually matter. Apart from this one, of course… you’re not allowed to cancel this one.
5. Take the Stairs
Every chance you get, take the stairs instead of the lift. Two floors or ten, it doesn’t matter. This small act injects movement into your daily routine without needing a gym membership or workout plan. Your legs get stronger, your heart gets healthier, and best of all, you feel like a strong, stoic God.
6. Delete Social Media from Your Phone
You know it deep down. Social media’s a time suck. It feeds off your attention and gives you nothing but self-doubt in return. Delete it from your phone. If you’re not ready to go cold turkey, at least limit your usage. Trust me, your productivity and self-esteem will skyrocket. You’ll wonder why you ever bothered scrolling through strangers’ lives in the first place.
7. Clean as You Go
Mess piles up, doesn’t it? One day, it’s a single dish. The next, you’re buried under a mountain of crap. Instead, clean as you go. Soak, or even better, wash the saucepans, bowls and plates before eating. Put things back in their place after eating. It’s easier to clean when it’s fresh, and it saves you hours of overwhelming cleaning sessions.
8. Stretch While Watching TV
Rather than sitting on your arse for hours in the evening. Take 5-15 minutes to stretch your body out as you watch TV. Most of us sit and slump all day, and our body hates it. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; just loosen up your muscles. Your sleep improves, your body feels better, and you wake up less stiff and more refreshed. A tiny investment for a big reward.
9. Wake Up Five Minutes Earlier
Not an hour, not thirty minutes, just five. Waking up five minutes earlier than usual can make your mornings infinitely less stressful. You give yourself time to breathe, to wake up properly, to stop rushing around like a maniac.
10. Set a Bedtime Alarm
This one’s a no-brainer. If you want to wake up refreshed and avoid hitting snooze, you need to go to bed earlier. Set a bedtime and stick to it. Stop pretending you’re going to do anything productive after 10pm. Swap late-night scrolling or binge-watching for an extra hour of sleep, and your mornings will thank you.
11. Place Your Alarm Away from Your Bed
We’ve all smacked the snooze button, rolled over, and slept in. The solution? Put your alarm far enough away that you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. The act of moving forces you awake. Snooze buttons are for quitters, and you’re better than that… aren’t you?!
12. Compliment Someone Every Day
This habit costs you nothing, but the returns are “Huwge”. Give someone a genuine compliment once a day. Whether it’s a stranger, colleague, or friend, spreading a little positivity lifts your mood and builds better connections with others. It’s a win-win, and it feels good to be kind.
13. Idea Capture
Ideas come when you least expect them. Whether it’s an idea for a business, a creative spark, or just something you don’t want to forget. Carry a notebook or download a free note-taking app (I use Google Keep). Write the thought down before it evaporates into the ether. Most ideas come to you when you disengage from life (queuing, walking, working out, etc.) Capture them.
14. The Five-Minute Tidy Up
It might be your bedroom, office or kitchen counter. Take 5 mins each day to do a quick reset and clear a space. It might seem trivial, but waking up or arriving to a clean space sets your day on the right track. No stress, no mess, just a lovely fresh start.
15. Schedule One ‘No Plans’ Day a Month
Life is hectic. Everyone wants something from you, and your calendar’s filled to the brim (just me?!). Block off one day a month when you have absolutely no plans. No commitments. Just you, your time, and your freedom. Do whatever the hell you want, or nothing at all. It’s a breath of fresh air in a world that’s always demanding more.
16. Remind Yourself of Your Goals
Most people set goals and promptly forget about them. Don’t be like most people. Keep your goals front and centre. It could be on your desk, your phone, or your fridge – wherever you regularly look. Mine’s the mirror (obvs!). Look at them daily. Reminding yourself of what you’re working towards keeps you focused and motivated.
17. Optimise Your Tech Settings
Your phone and computer are supposed to work for you, not against you. Use tools like Focus Mode or Grayscale to cut down on distractions. Make your tech serve your goals, not your yummy yummy dopamine cravings.
18. Turn Off Notifications
Do you really need to know about every email, every message, every ‘like’, the second it happens? Turn off the notifications. Your life will feel a lot quieter, and your attention will be your own again.
19. Replace Bad Habits with Good Ones
Killing a bad habit is hard. So, replace it with something better. If you’re cutting down on mindless scrolling, fill that time with something positive. Read, learn, create or move. It’s easier to replace a habit than to leave a void.
20. No Screens 60 Minutes Before Bed
Unplug. Stop the endless scrolling. Set your phone aside an hour before bed, and your sleep and focus will improve. You’ll fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more refreshed. Your brain needs time to wind down, and the blue light from screens counteract that.
21. Simplify Your Wardrobe
Why waste time deciding what to wear? Simplify your wardrobe. Stick to a few basic pieces that you love. My go-to is a simple black T-shirt. Choose whatever works for you. Fewer choices mean less decision fatigue. It’s one less thing to think about, and you can start your day on autopilot.
22. Don’t Start Binge-Worthy Shows
Just don’t do it. Binge-worthy shows are time vampires. Start one, and before you know it, hours, days, weeks have slipped by. There’s no value in wasting your life in front of a screen. Find something more worthwhile to spend your time on. If you must, allow 1-2 episodes or 1-2 hours before bed, allowing for an hour without screens before bed.
23. Cancel Unnecessary Commitments
Look at your calendar. I guarantee there are things on there you don’t need to do. Cancel them. Say no. Stop letting your time be sucked up by obligations that don’t serve you. Reclaim your hours, your mental space, and your energy.
24. Go Paperless
Stop drowning in paper clutter. Put all your bills on Direct Debit, close accounts you don’t need, and go paperless on statements. You’ll never have to worry about a late payment or digging through a stack of paperwork again. It’s a one-time habit that saves you countless hours in the future.
25. Maintain an Emergency Fund
Life throws curveballs. Having a well-funded Emergency Fund gives you the peace of mind that no matter what happens, you’re covered. Aim for three to six months of expenses, and you’ll sleep a little easier knowing you’re ready for anything.
26. No More News
The news thrives on fear and negativity. It’s designed to keep you hooked, not informed. Cut it out of your daily routine. Instead of scrolling through endless bad headlines, free up your mind for things that actually matter to you. You won’t miss out on anything important, and you’ll feel calmer, more focused, and less stressed. If something big happens, you’ll hear about it soon enough.
27. Self-Care Isn’t a Luxury
Stop treating self-care like an afterthought. It’s not a luxury – it’s essential! Schedule time every week for yourself – whether it’s a walk, a bath, or just sitting quietly. Treat it like a non-negotiable appointment. Your mind and body need time to recharge. When you prioritise self-care, you’ll feel more energised, more productive, and far less burned out. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so take the time to refill it regularly.
28. Master Multi-Tasking
Turn your downtime into learning time. While doing mindless tasks like washing the dishes, driving, or working out, pop in an earbud and listen to audiobooks or podcasts. You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn while your hands are busy and your brain’s on autopilot. These low-effort moments become opportunities to grow your knowledge without adding extra time to your day. It’s one of the easiest ways to get smarter while going about your daily routine.
29. Stop Checking Stock Charts Daily
Obsessing over stock prices every day won’t make them go up (I know, I’ve tried!). It’ll only make you anxious or greedy. Stop refreshing those charts and let the market do its thing. Instead, set a simple rule: check your investments at the end of the month, not every time there’s a tiny fluctuation. This takes the emotion out of your decisions and helps you focus on the long-term picture. Investing isn’t a daily grind; it’s a slow, steady climb. So, trust the process, review monthly, and save yourself from the stress of constant monitoring.
30. Try Grocery Delivery
Time is money, and grocery delivery can save both. If trading a few quid for an hour of your time feels like a good deal, go for it. Skip the hassle of crowded aisles and long queues, and more importantly, avoid the temptation of impulse buys. You’ll stick to your list, save money in the long run, and free up time for more meaningful tasks.
31. Perfectionism Kills Progress
Waiting for everything to be perfect? Stop. The stars won’t align, and perfection is just procrastination in disguise. Good enough is better than never done. Whether it’s starting a project, hitting the gym, or tackling that big idea – get moving! Progress happens when you take action, not when you’re waiting for flawless conditions. Aim for “good enough” and refine as you go. That’s how things really get done.
32. Take 10-Minute Walks
A 10-minute walk might seem small, but it’s a powerhouse habit. After meals, between tasks, or during a break, take a quick stroll. It aids digestion, clears your mind, boosts your mood, and keeps you active without needing hours at the gym. Consistency is key here. The short walks add up over time, improving both your mental clarity and physical health. Simple, easy, and surprisingly effective.
33. Plan Tomorrow Today
Take five minutes at the end of the work day to plan tomorrow. Write down the top three things you want to accomplish. It gives you clarity and focus, helping you hit the ground running when you wake up. No more fumbling through your day, just a clear path to getting things done.
34. Take 3 Deep Breaths
Take one minute each day to practice deep breathing. Inhale deeply through your nose and into your belly. Hold it for a brief moment before exhaling slowly through your nose. Repeat 3 times. It’s a simple way to reduce stress, clear your mind, and recalibrate your body.
35. Set a Food Curfew
Late-night eating? It’s a habit that sneaks up on you. Set a food curfew where you don’t eat 3-4 hours before bed. This simple boundary helps your body digest better, prevents mindless snacking, and promotes better sleep. It’s a small rule with big benefits for your energy levels, waistline, discipline and overall health.
36. Press Ups Before Pissing
Before emptying your bladder, commit to dropping and doing 10 press-ups. If you can’t do 10, do 5, use your knees or a wall – no excuses. Don’t max out; do less than half of what you could do all out. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it gets your blood flowing before your urine does. No gym needed, no equipment, just you and the floor. Do it every day and watch how this habit kickstarts your metabolism and builds strength over time.
37. Use a Little Levity
Life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. Bring some levity into your day-to-day. Whether it’s cracking a joke during a stressful meeting, laughing at yourself when you mess up, or simply smiling more – lighten the mood whenever you can. Not only will you feel better, but people around you will too. Find the fun in the ordinary, and you’ll see how much better life can be.
Reflect and share this with someone.

ASK
“Which area of my life is the biggest bottleneck to my success? Health, wealth or relationships?”
“Which 1-3 small, life-changing habits could I try today that would counteract that?”
Write down what comes to mind.
